Mariam B. Lam
Associate Vice Chancellor and Chief Diversity Office

As UCR’s chief diversity officer, Mariam Lam reports directly to the Chancellor, serving as his primary discussant on all matters relating to inclusion, equity and campus climate. Her role is to serve as an innovative leader, promoting a university environment that values differences among its members, fostering communication across groups, and leading strategic initiatives. The chief diversity officer also partners with other senior administrators and assists all units of the campus, from student service programs and human resources to academic personnel, in their efforts to recruit and retain diverse faculty, staff, and student body.

Charles G. Baldwin
Program Officer, UP
Mass Cultural Council

Charles G. Baldwin is the Program Officer for the Mass Cultural Council’s Universal Participation (UP) Initiative, which provides resources for organizations seeking to develop inclusive and equitable tools for policy development and community engagement. For 15 years Charles was the Director of Marketing and Operations at Wheelock Family Theatre, a professional, Equity theatre in Boston committed to affordable, colorful, accessible theatre for children and families. He serves on the Executive Committee of CANE (Cultural Access New England) and is an active participant in the Kennedy Center’s LEAD Conference (Leadership Exchange for Arts and Disability). Out of the office, Charles is an educator, illustrator, stage designer, and puppeteer.

A-lan Holt
Executive Director, Institute for Diversity in the Arts
Stanford University

A-lan Holt is the Executive Director at the Institute for Diversity in the Arts at Stanford University, within the Center for Comparative Studies in Race and Ethnicity.  There she trains undergraduates in the areas of diversity and culture, arts leadership, and social justice. She is a practicing artist in theatre and film. She is a 2018 Sundance Fellow, a 2018 SF Film Screenwriting Fellow, and a frequent contributor on-air at KQED Arts.

Alicia Anstead, Moderator

Harvard University

Alicia Anstead NF ’08 is associate director for programming at the Office for the Arts and editor-in-chief/co-founder of the Harvard Arts Blog. She is also editor-in-chief of Inside Arts, the magazine for the Association of Performing Arts Professionals in Washington, DC and a journalism instructor at Harvard University Extension School. She is formerly the executive editor of The Writer magazine in Boston and senior arts reporter at the Bangor Daily News in Maine. Her work has appeared in the New York Times, the Boston GlobeScientific American, The Harvard Gazette and Art New England.
